If you are way behind , it means that you are not updated with something . For example , if you are working at your job and you are working hard but you still have a lot of things to do and the day is ending and you need to finish what you are doing , so you come to a conclusion that you are way behind on your work and maybe you will need to do overtime , that is , you will need to work until late .
